Video Poet Series

Please join Walter Bargen via interactive videoconferencing and video streaming to hear the poet Kevin Prufer read from his recent work and answer questions posed by Missouri students and residents. If you are unable to participate on this date because of scheduling conflicts, this event will be recorded and made available for viewing at http://www.more.net/services/videostreaming/archived-events.html approximately one week after the event.

Kevin Prufer will discuss the way in which he writes, what inspires him to write and what his influences are. Most importantly, he will read poems selected from his many books. Biographical information on Mr. Prufer is available below.

The interactive videoconference is open to four Missouri classrooms or libraries; students or residents from these locations will be able to ask Mr. Prufer questions directly. In addition, MOREnet will broadcast the event online via streaming video to other classrooms or libraries who wish to participate. For these groups, an e-mail address will be provided so that questions may be submitted.

Please forward this invitation to any who might be interested in participating. Registration for the videoconference of this event will be accepted from the first four schools and libraries that successfully test their videoconferencing connection and equipment. Contact MOREnet Video Consulting at (800) 509-6673 to test.

Please request participation in this event by contacting MOREnet at mets@more.net, and be sure to indicate which connection method you will employ to participate. Please submit your request by Nov. 1, 2008. All requests will receive a confirmation response.

Biographical Information:

Kevin Prufer is the author of, among others, National Anthem (Four Way Books, 2008) and Fallen From a Chariot (Carnegie Mellon, 2005), named one of the best books of the last 25 years by the editors of The Bloomsbury Review. He's also editor of New European Poets (Graywolf, 2008), Dark Horses: Essays on Overlooked Poems (University of Illinois, 2007) and The New Young American Poets (Southern Illinois, 2000), named one of the ten best poetry books of the year by BookList magazine and the American Library Association. The recipient of three Pushcart prizes and several awards from the Poetry Society of America, he lives in Warrensburg, Missouri, where he serves as editor of PLEIADES: A Journal of New Writing.
